Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing which is an evidenced based treatment method for trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. EMDR has also been shown to be effective in treating a variety of other disorders.

The theory behind EMDR relies on the neurobiological belief that the brain and the body can store trauma and other distressing emotions or beliefs. In some cases, the brain might get stuck or the brain stores information in an unhelpful way which can lead to distress. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain eliminate unhelpful information and reprocesses it to adaptive information as well as decreasing negative thoughts, beliefs, or emotions.

EMDR can be very successful at alleviating individuals’ symptoms quickly and without having to talk in depth about the traumatic experience. I work collaboratively with all of my clients to see if EMDR is the right fit for them and incorporating it into our therapeutic work together. I’ve found EMDR to be very effective for clients who seem to experience a plateau in improvements with traditional talk therapy. Please reach out to schedule a free phone consultation to ask more questions about EMDR and if I might be a good fit for you.
