My Approach to Counseling
I approach counseling from a Person Centered and Narrative orientation that emphasizes collaboration, honoring your unique story, separating yourself from your struggles, exploring strengths, and empowering you to re-write your story. My first and foremost focus in counseling is to develop a trusting relationship with you. I strive to develop deep relationships with each person in order to create a counseling space that fosters trust, safety, vulnerability, and growth.
I believe that our struggles are created within the context of our lives and relationships, and that healing happens within restorative relationships. In counseling, we will work together to learn more about your struggles, relationships, and yourself in order to uncover collaborative solutions that help improve your wellbeing.
I work with adults suffering from a variety of struggles including anxiety, thought, mood, trauma, and adjustment related disorders. I will work with you to decide whether or not I will be the right fit for you and your specific needs. I strongly believe that successful counseling stems from developing a trusting therapeutic relationship between my clients and myself. Likewise, I also believe in incorporating evidence-based techniques that have been proven to help specific problems. Examples of my evidenced-based techniques include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused Therapy.
